5th Grade GoWeek Reflections

This week in 5th Grade we have been learning about GoWeek and what it looks like in all the grades at Hyde Park. We have watched videos from previous years of High School Trips. The kids have loved it. They are already excited for their High School GoWeek! We have also done a few service projects. On Monday we did messages to our teachers right here at Hyde Park thanking them for all their hard work over an unprecedented and crazy year. On Tuesday we wrote letters to the children at Dell’s Children’s Hospital and today we are going to personalize coloring books for these kids as well. Lastly, we are watching a video called a “On the way to School.” This showcases four children in other countries and their journey to school. It is a great way to be able to talk about how lucky we are to be at school and how our journey is very different than other kids in different countries! It has been a great start to Go Week for the 5th graders here at Hyde Park!

5th Grade – Day 2

It was a joy to see our students lead chapel this morning. They were able to share the work the Lord is doing through us this week through verses, song, and personal accounts. Did you know that 1 in 5 American children is food insecure?

After Chapel today, we worked on encouraging notes to the church’s leadership. Then we partnered with Hyde Park Church’s food pantry. The food was donated during the school’s “Souper Bowl” canned food drive. This donation helps them feed the families and people they service every week.

“Today we went to the Hyde Park Food Pantry to learn about how they serve the community.”- Owen

“5th grade lead chapel for the elementary and middle school. We shared about our partnership with the Rwanda team and the service we are doing this week.”- Rowan “This morning we wrote cards to the church leadership team to encourage them.”- Max

5th Grade – Day 1

5th grade is focused on hunger relief this week.  Today, we worked at the Central Texas Food Bank.  It was a great opportunity for our students because there was also team from Hyde Park High School serving with us!  The students learned about how the food bank serves the community and then they helped to provide 5,750 meals!

Fun Run and Done!

This morning we prayed for the Rwanda team (and all the other teams) before heading over to Camp Mabry for the Fun Run Victory Lap in support of the Beyond Batten Foundation. It was a great finish to a busy week.  Please pray that God will move in the hearts of the students (and everyone else!) to seize every opportunity to serve others. Happy Spring Break!!!!

Rwanda/5th Grade 3/14: Cultural Craft Rotation and Special Visitor

Day 4 started off with a great chapel led by 3rd grade.  Students also had the opportunity to rotate between the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms to make a craft associated with each classes Go Week country.  Students visiting 5th grade engaged in Rwandan basket-weaving. We are excited for this afternoon when a parent is coming to tell us about a recent trip to Africa.

Rwanda/5th Grade 3/13/19: Food Bank and Campus Cleanup

We had another busy day! It all started with a trip to the Central Texas Food Bank where we helped packaged food to be delivered to those in need.  Students performed a variety of tasks and gave their best effort.  We served from 9 to noon. Thanks to all the parents who came to help! Back at HP, we helped the facilities team by going on a “trash walk” through the parking garage.  It definitely looked better when we were done! 🙂 We also checked in on the Rwanda team to see what they’ve been up to and were happy to see that their trip has been going well so far. God is good!
